Volunteer

“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” Ephesians 2: 19-22

At the Church of the Good Shepherd, parishioners are not only members of God’s household as the Apostle Paul suggests above, but are the place where God dwells when we come together, and do ministry together. We do not go to Church; we are the Church. Our life together as a family and congregation is based on the ministry we share. This common purpose helps us grow in fellowship and in faith. The following list of ministries demonstrates that the life of the Church of the Good Shepherd centers on the ministry we do together. Where two or three are gathered in the name of Jesus, he promises to be there with us. Come be a part of that life and get involved!

Music Ministries

From the earliest times, God’s people have shown their love for God with singing and playing of musical instruments. Music is an integral part of our worship at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Below is a list of ways you can serve God through music. To read more and to learn more about how to get involved, click on Music Ministries.

Daughters of the King Prayer Ministry

The Daughters of the King are an international lay order for Anglican, Episcopal, Lutheran and Roman Catholic women who are vowed to prayer, service, and evangelism in their daily lives. The Daughters of the King pray for our parish, for individuals, and for the wider community and world. After the Sunday worship services every week, they take the flowers from the High Altar, arrange them in vases and deliver them to members of our church family who are hospitalized or home-bound.

Caring Ministries

The Church of the Good Shepherd knows we need friends and family to walk with us through difficult times. While much of our caring takes place unofficially, outside of a structured group, coming together to share experiences in the context of our faith is encouraging, comforting, and life-giving. One organized caring ministry is “Feed My Sheep”, a joint ministry between the Church of the Good Shepherd and St. James Episcopal School. We prepare and deliver casseroles to our church and school families who are in need of special care, such as those who have experienced a death in the family, endured a long illness, or just had a baby. Children’s Ministries

Our greatest joy and responsibility is to pass our faith on to our children. If you have worked with children, no doubt you already know that they are the ones who teach us. Come explore the world through the eyes of a child, and meet Jesus anew, hear God’s promises again and maybe some for the first time. Below is a list of ways to volunteer with our Children’s Ministries.

  • Sunday School Teachers and Assistants
  • Children’s Chapel Leaders
  • Vacation Bible School Volunteers

Youth Ministries

At Church of the Good Shepherd, we believe it takes a Church to raise a child. We look after one another’s youth as if they were our own. We are parents and grandparents, college students and young adults who all passionately care about young people and earnestly desire their discovery of the abundant life that only Jesus gives. Below are a number of ways to volunteer in our Youth Ministries program.

  • Acolyte Directors
  • Middle School Youth Volunteers
  • High School Youth Volunteers
  • Event Chaperones

Breakfast Ministry

“ECOLI” (Episcopalians Cooking Our Lord’s Ingredients) is our fun-loving and lively crew who prepares, serves and cleans up after our Sunday morning breakfast fellowship. Cooking experience is not required; there is a job for everyone.

Hospitality

Teams of parishioners form together around parish wide events such as Parish Picnics, Lenten Dinners, feeding Youth Mission Groups and more, providing organization, food, decorations, setup and clean up. A variety of gifts and talents are needed on these occasions including cooks, engineers, craftsmen, artists, and just hard workers who want to help. Teams will also form to provide a reception following a special service, such as a Funeral, Baptism, Confirmation or other special occasion.

Church Office Volunteers

“Office Angels” The Church of the Good Shepherd is blessed by a group of volunteers who dedicate their time on weekdays to help in the Church Office with clerical duties such as answering the phone, stuffing envelopes, proofreading our publications, preparing mailings, and much more. As the first face that visitors to the office see, and the first voice that people calling the church hear, you will enjoy the outgoing, social nature of this ministry.

If you would like to volunteer in any of these ministries or would like more information, please call the church at 361-882-1735.
