Men’s Fellowship

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)

The Church of the Good Shepherd offers several ways for men to get together, grow in faith and friendship, and have a little fun at the same time. Check out the following programs and find the right fit for you.

Men’s Life Fellowship

This discussion-based group focuses on building community, fellowship, and discussion of real issues in men’s lives.  This course is a practical introduction to the Christian faith with the opportunity to explore Christianity without being intimidated to ask the difficult questions.

This group offers encouragement and support for your daily life. Now is a great time to join this group and share in fellowship and wisdom. Come to share or come just to listen!

Men’s Life Fellowship also organizes fun, energetic activities outside of the book study and will publicize them to the congregation as they draw near. Be looking for announcements of fishing tournaments, skeet shoots, golf tournaments and more.

Meets Tuesday mornings at 7:00-8:00 a.m. in the Parlor at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Men’s Book Study Group

This discussion-based group focuses on theological reflection and current affairs in the context of a book study. This is the group that covers all the great questions and dilemmas of the universe, and learns more about each other in the process. This is an ongoing study that will continue with a new book selection after they have finished discussing the current book. Weekly readings are involved in this study.

Meets Tuesdays at noon, in the Munds Hall Library at the Church of the Good Shepherd

Tuesday Night Basketball

This is no ordinary Church league basketball team. It is a rag-tag, multi-generational, competitive mix of men who think they’ve still got it. Actually some of them do. Come out for a fun-filled, a little irreverent, call-your-own fouls kind of game and show us what you’ve got.

Meets Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the McNeil Gymnasium at the Church of the Good Shepherd

Invite your friends!

All men of Good Shepherd and their guests are invited for this special event in the new year! We will hold a men’s retreat February 1st and 2nd in Munds Hall. We encourage men of all ages to come and invite a friend to hear our special guest speaker, David Cook.  Among many other accomplishments, David is the author of the best selling book, Golf’s Sacred Journey: Seven days in Utopia. His book was made into a movie starring Robert Duvall in 2011.

Dr. David Cook has spent his life coaching the minds of champions. He spent 8 years as the San Antonio Spurs sport psychologist that included two NBA Championships.  He has worked with performers from the PGA, MLB, NFL, NBA, Olympics, and NCAA as well as many Fortune 500 companies including Valero, Exxon/Mobil, Sprint, Frito Lay, Raytheon, Merrill Lynch, and many others.

David’s greatest passion is sharing Christ with men.  Specifically at our event he will focus on God’s wisdom and principles for performing in life and business with Spiritual Toughness.  Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart I have overcome the world.”

Come be inspired and encouraged as David leads us on a journey to greatness in a world of constant adversity, interference, and change.

This event will begin Friday, February 1st at 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. and will continue Saturday morning, February 2 from 9:00 to noon.
