Vision and Values

About:

Founded in 1860, the Church of the Good Shepherd is a historic downtown church in Corpus Christi, Texas that continues to impact its community with Christ’s love and compassion. We are a multigenerational congregation who is passionate about worshipping God in Christ, growing in our knowledge of Him through study and prayer, and seeking to live out our faith by serving others. We are a welcoming community of all ages, races, and backgrounds. The Church of the Good Shepherd is a congregation that strongly believes God’s love is experienced through fellowship and being family to each other, then sharing that love with the surrounding world.

A significantly important outreach of the Church of the Good Shepherd is St. James Episcopal School, with which we share our campus and facilities. Our partnership with the Pre-K through 8th Grade school has shaped Christian leaders of this community since 1946, and we continue to see God working in these beautiful children and families every day of the week.

We have several Sunday worship services from which to choose, each with a different feel and tempo. For spiritual growth, we offer a coordinated Christian Formation program for all ages. In addition to Sunday programs, the Church of the Good Shepherd also offers several weekday services and classes, to meet a variety of schedules and interests. There are many ways for people to share in the mission and ministries of the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Vision:

Changing Lives, Sharing Christ.

The community of the Church of the Good Shepherd believes that, as we grow in our faith in God through Jesus Christ, our lives are necessarily changed and enriched.  Through our transformed lives, we seek to share Christ’s love, by our witness and service to all His beloved children, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Values:

In all that we do, the Church of the Good Shepherd seeks to glorify God through the following areas:

THE CHRISTIAN FAITH: We seek to grow in faith by patterning our lives on the life and teaching of Jesus Christ as found in the Holy Scriptures.

WORSHIP: Our worship seeks to glorify God in the context of the Christian Sacraments and traditional Anglican theology and liturgy, always offering our best in preaching, prayer, and inspirational music.

DISCIPLESHIP: We seek to draw people into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and enabling each of us to be transformed into disciples of Jesus Christ through participation in the programs and ministries of the Church of the Good Shepherd.

MINISTRY: We seek to minister to those in spiritual, emotional and physical need through pastoral care and outreach programs designed to serve the community of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the city of Corpus Christi and the world beyond.

STEWARDSHIP: We seek to become faithful stewards of our time, talent, and treasure for the ultimate glory of God, the growth of his Kingdom, and as an example to others.

FELLOWSHIP: We seek to provide a Christian home for individuals and families seeking to experience and share Christian community.
