Founded in 1971 by a group of women from the Church of the Good Shepherd with a heart to help others in need, Good Shepherd’s Corner is a consignment and retail shop that benefits the community in several ways. It has given thousands of dollars in charitable donations to the ministries of the Church, as well as to missions around the city of Corpus Christi.
Today, Good Shepherd’s Corner serves those in need in the nearby neighborhoods by selling gently used men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, jewelry, shoes, appliances, and household items at significantly reduced prices. Men and women benefit by being able to buy quality goods for just a few dollars. Some customers use the store as a means of income, by bringing in items for consignment and collecting small proceeds from the sales each month. Most of the clothing and resale items are donated, so the Corner itself makes a generous profit, which it donates to charities and missions. The governing board, “The Committee of Seven”, meets annually to receive grant requests and decide on how donations will be disbursed.
It takes many volunteers to receive, mark, categorize, and display the merchandise. The Corner is always looking for more volunteers. The women who work at the Corner enjoy lively fellowship plus the blessing of being able to interact with the customers and help those in need.
